Event Description:
Welcome to the Fifth annual Sigma Skeet Shoot hosted by Derrick Nordberg (pc 96) and Jonathan Simonson (pc 21).
Start time is 10:00 AM this year to get done before kickoff.
We created this event to get current and past members together for two of our favorite activities - Skeet Shooting and watching Cougar
football with our closest friends. And what better place to host it than at a brewery? We also wanted to help out our chapter so all
proceeds from the Skeet Shoot and $1 each pint are donated to Sigma chapter.
Event Details:Safety is our most important goal of this event. For everyone's safety we have created some additional rules on top of basic gun safety that apply to everyone.
- Everyone must attend the safety training. No Exceptions. - You must bring your own shotgun. This is so everyone is familiar with their weapon. No lending of firearms allowed. - No outside ammunittion allowed. Your ammunition will be provided by the judging staff at each station. - Eye and ear protection required. No exceptions. Extra ear plugs and glasses will be available. - No shotguns larger than 12 ga. will be allowed. If you are using a gauge different than 12 i.e. 20, please let Derrick know so we can provide the correct ammunition. - No loading of firearms until it is your turn to shoot and you have permission to load from the station judges. - No entry to the Brewery prior to the event. No exceptions. If you enter the brewery prior to your wave you will be disqualified. No exceptions. Basic Gun Safety:
- Muzzle Control. Never point your gun at anything you are not willing to kill. The key is to prevent something you will have to deal with the rest of your life. It doesn’t matter if the gun is unloaded or the breach open, the muzzle is either down, up, or down range. There are two types of shooters out there, ones that have had an accidental discharge and ones who will. - Always keep your finger off the trigger until you have your target in sight and are ready to fire. Rest your finger on the side of the firearm or trigger guard like your life and your friend’s life depend on it. Because they do. - Shotguns are to be unloaded at all times unless it is your turn to shoot, the station judge has confirmed it is your turn, and has given you your 10 rounds of ammo for your shooting session. No outside ammo allowed. Entry:
$50.00 includes all ammo and targets. Tickets availabe at Brown Paper Tickets and onsite. Prepurchase to gaurantee your spot. All proceeds donated to Sigma Chapter. Entry is capped at 50 entries, All starting at the same time. Competition Rules:
No loading of firearms until it is your turn to shoot. You must be in the shooting station, it must be your turn, and you must have your firearm pointed down range. No outside ammo. Judges will provide ammo at each station. One shot per clay. If you fire a second round on a single, or a third round on a double, the proceeding clay will be counted as a miss. The only exception is broken clays thrown that are fired upon. The shooter will get a replacement round for the next clay and the broken clay will not count even if hit. If the second clay in a double is broken out of the thrower, the shooter reshoots that turn. If a shell fails to fire during a throw then the turn will be repeated. Failure to fire when the primer has a dimple in it will result in the turn being repeated. Same for doubles. Clays that are not hit are considered lost birds and will be announced by the judges. The butt of the gun must be held below the arm pit until the target is visible by the shooter. You don’t hunt birds with the gun against your shoulder all day long so you shouldn’t practice with clays with the gun held to your shoulder. Prematurely shouldering the weapon will count as a lost bird. You cannot rest the end of the muzzle of your firearm on your foot. Pointing the muzzle in an unsafe direction is strictly prohibited. Violation of this rule will be addressed as follows: - One warning. The shooter will be warned once. - Disregard of this rule may result in disqualification and the shooter will be asked to return their firearm to a secured location for the remainder of the event. A visible piece of the target has to separate from the clay to be considered a kill. Dust does not count. For any obvious shooter error (i.e. safety left on, pump not fully extended, gun not loaded etc) the clay will be considered lost. If a target is thrown before the shooter calls “PULL,” the turn will be repeated. If any other circumstance arises that we have not prepared for, we will refer to the NSSA Rule Book. Stations:
- Station A – Hand Thrown. Two Flight patterns. Thrower randomly chooses how they throw 3 low line drives, 3 high flyers and 2 sets of doubles for each shooter - Station B – Machine Thrown. One Flight Pattern. First 10 clays are singles, Last 4 are doubles. - Station C – Twin Turrets. Crisscross Pattern. 5 Clays from left thrower, 5 clays from right thrower, then two sets of doubles.
Format:Every Shooter will complete all three stations one at a time. As soon as you have completed a station please proceed to the next one. Person with the most broken clays wins. Max score is 38. Winner
The Burly man that wins this event will have the guilty pleasure of dispatching a large explosive embedded in a large object sure to bring everyone a better show than any 4th of July presentation seen. They will have their name engraved on the Sigma Skeet Plaque and live to 100 years of age.
